HERXP Campaign

Although the gender ratio within the gaming community has become more parallel over time, women are still more likely to be harassed, stereotyped, and sexualized when playing video games online. Because of this, women feel obligated to conceal their identity by “acting more masculine” or even claiming to be male-identifying. Some women go as far to purchase voice-changing software to sound like a man when talking.

The HERXP app (XP stands for “experience” in most video games) confronts the absence of resources for women to connect and empower one another within the gaming community. Various materials, such as posters and social media ads, were created to promote the app and raise awareness to the continued misogyny women face within the gaming community. These deliverables were made by women, for women, an important initiative of the campaign.
